Pound of Hair?

I had to have lost another pound just by my haircut tonight. Good heavens--I wasn't expecting it to be so short. Too late to do anything about it now.

I was supposed to go to the gym tonight but when I got home from Harry Nick's (my hairdresser), but Jeff said Aidan cried for a half an hour after I left. So, I haven't been since Sunday. Depressing.

I hope Aidan isn't getting sick. His teeth have been bothering him for weeks>

Down a total of 7 lbs again due to Bisquick?

Not sure how I lost a bunch of weight but I'll take it. Admittedly, I have been eating better and only had sweets twice last week. Once for my brother-in-law's birthday and the second time on Sunday when I made coffee cake. I have a great recipe for home-made "Bisquick" and the recipe for the coffee cake couldn't be simpler. If you are interested in the recipe for the Bisquick, please let me know.

Children's Hospital of Wisconsin

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel is publishing a 3 part series on a baby with Hypoplastic Left Heart and her experiences at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin. You can read the first article here.

Aidan was born with a similar condition called Hypoplastic Right Heart. He had 3 heart surgeries in his first 5 months. The experiences described in this article are almost too much for Jeff and I to read as they really hit close to home. We know the doctors, staff, rooms, procedures--everything in this article. Aidan is doing great and will require another open heart surgery in the next year. We are so fortunate.

The staff at Children's Hospital is awesome.

Scale broken?

An anonymous poster said that maybe something is wrong with the scale. I guess that could be true. I did just buy it and it is a digital scale from weight watchers. My luck, it will be 20 lbs light like my last scale. I mean, I knew that I gained weight but geez, I didn't think it was that bad. What a shocker! At least it kicked my butt into gear into joining the fitness club.

Down 2 lbs from Yesterday

Apparently, that was a really effective workout yesterday... Maybe I will stay off the scale for a while or only weigh weekly as Jeff suggests.

President's Fitness Challenge

Jeff's returning movies so I am hopefully checking my website to see if anyone is visiting (nope). I should mention for anyone who reads this that a good incentive and place to track your activities is on the President's Fitness Challenge site President's Challenge.

I have been doing it for 8 weeks and am only 25% of the way to some bronze medal. But I think I signed up for some advanced fitness program. You can compare your activities with others in the nation doing the same activity or in the same age bracket. I use it primarily for incentive.

Bruce Springsteen Rocks

Just checking out some Springsteen action on VH1 tonight. I adore Bruce Springsteen. Nothing more needs to be said.

Water Weight?

Well, the trainer at the gym today said that the first amount of weight loss is water weight. This didn't help seeing as I lost 7 lbs in the first 6 weeks, and gained back 5 in the last 2. This is despite exercising more and eating better this week. I told him a 1/4 lb. weight loss a week is discouraging, hoping he would say something like, "well after 9 weeks, the weight will just drop off." He didn't say that.

I worked out hard, just to prove to my body I'm not giving up. And then I came home and had quesadillas. Yum!

On a store note, I had a lot of visitors but no purchases. However, my friend Kim tried to checkout and had problems. :-(

Adding to my mood, I overheard Aidan (my 22 month old son) say to Jeff this morning "is that no?" Yes, indeed. There was snow this morning. This was after it was 80 something degrees this week. Ah, Wisconsin's weather is fickle.

Jeff said to stay off the scale for a while.

P.S. Thanks for the Aveda/bleach stick tip!

Oh yeah I almost forgot, my website is live!

What have I done?

Tonight, in order to be held accountable , I let my family and friends know about my new weight loss blog. How embarrassing.

On a good note, I haven't been on the scale since this morning. Smart move since I notice my fingers are puffy.

Drink More Water, Gain More Weight

Due to scheduling problems, I missed going to the gym 3 days in a row (I normally go every other day). I have been eating very good in the meantime (no brownies!).

Yesterday, I drank a ton of water, peed a lot, went to the gym and worked out for 45 minutes and slept. This morning, I gained 2 lbs.

My mom says to stay off the scale.

11:30 AM No Brownies

Avoid Brownies at All Costs

Well, every day I get tips from the Athletic Club's website about exercise. Today I received some much needed incentive. It basically says, although strength training burns few calories than aerobic activity, over time the extra muscle can increase the total number off calories burned. Muscle, being active tissue, requires more calories than fat, even when the muscle isn't working. But you knew that.

P.S. The brownie stains have not come out yet with two washings using Zout. Any suggestions?

Cocoa Stains on my Workout Shirt - 5 lbs down - 7 weeks

This morning, I was spraying for the second time the cocoa powder stains out of my new Athletic Club shirt. This is a shirt that I proudly received free last week for completing 15 workouts in a 90 day period. I actually did it in less than 60 days. I worked hard for this shirt. I wore it the next day. I had brownie cravings. I made homemade brownies. I spilled cocoa powder down my shirt. It is symbolic of my 7 week journey in weight loss.

I've struggled with my weight for over 10 years now. I've made half-hearted attempts along the way to lose weight. I am now very serious about it. I want to feel better, ward of serious disease, live longer, and look better. I want to show the rest of my family that it can be done as most of us are in the same predicament.

My husband and I joined an athletic club to help with this goal, despite our money troubles. My husband works 3 jobs and is finishing his PhD and I work from home selling on eBay and soon on my new website. It was a real commitment for us to join. We have a 22-month old son, too!

I am frustrated with my lack of results. Yes, I made brownies and ate most of them last week. However, I really have been eating better! My goal is to lose a total of 55 lbs. So far, I've lost 7 but then went up 2 last week. Probably because of the darn brownies.

I workout 3-4 times a week with weight circuit training after a 10 minute cardio warmup. I try to walk on the off days, depending upon the weather.

I've started this blog to track my progress, give me incentive, and perhaps give a reader incentive, too.

My new goal this week: no chocolate. So far, no problems. No brownies, either. Now back to that stain...
